BSNL to provide services near LoC after Army clearance

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's dream of connecting all people of his state through mobile phones may soon be realised as BSNL has agreed to provide the facility in areas close to the LoC subject to army clearance.

In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, minister of state for communication and information and technology Milind Deora said that state-run telecom company BSNL will provide mobile phone services in Machil, Tulail, Keran and Karnah in North Kashmir after considering techno-commercial and obtaining army permissions.

Apple: Samsung abused its monopoly power

Samsung abused its "monopoly power" and demanded an unreasonable royalty from Apple for the use of wireless patents in the iPhone, hurting the device's commercial prospects, Apple experts testified.

Richard Donaldson, a former lead patents attorney for Texas Instruments, told the court on Friday a 2.4 per cent royalty Samsung wanted on the price of the iPhone was discriminatory because the patents in question enabled just a fraction of the smartphone' s features.

Later, New York University professor Janusz Ordover likened that rate - equivalent to $14 per $600 iPhone - to a "holdup."

Rs 30k cr for startups in IT hardware, electronics

India has set aside Rs 30,000 crore worth of incentives and subsidies for firms who will be interested in setting up electronic manufacturing units in the country.
