After email scams, and spam posts on Facebook, Twitter seems to be the victim of a new Phishing attack. A new scam has surfaced wherein users receive a Direct Message (DM) that states how others are saying bad things about you, along with a link. However, once you click on the link, you may be redirected to a malicious website that steals your Twitter password, and also tries to infect your mobile device or PC. 

Once infected, it also sends DMs to all your Twitter contacts, posing as you. In a press release from ESET, Security Evangelist Stephen Cobb said, "I don't think many people would be suspicious as they should be on Twitter and Facebook, because the messages appear to be from friends, but usually the friend's account has been hijacked by scammers and used to seek out other victims. If you get a tweet that is malicious from a friend, immediately let them know that their account has been compromised".

While such scams are not new, they are usually more damaging because they seem to come from someone you know. As always, don't click on links that seem suspicious, and keep your browser and Antivirus up-to-date.
